Life is returning to normal

What a wonderful Sunday.  For the first time in a long time, we had a most ordinary day. We woke up in our new bedroom and padded down our new hallways and got ready for the day.  Off we went and stopped at my parents to deliver to my mother a new potentilla bush with mango coloured flowers for Mother’s day.  After a nice chat we left to meet the rest of the family at Greystones for Mother’s day brunch.  Just my favourite thing, off to a new restaurant to try new food and a brunch to beat.  Nothing is better I say than combining breakfast and lunch, the best of both worlds.  Beyond my usual favourites from breakfast, I had a delicious German potato salad flavoured with dill, a Waldorf salad with crunchy ripe apples which I haven’t had in forever, a big heaping plate of cheeses and oven rolled roast potatoes.  I left having eaten three plates of food and feeling rather stuffed after great conversation with family.  It was funny, it was like a swap meet among us kids, each of us giving each other photos or dishes we no longer need or promises to come paint!!  Nothing like family.  Then we headed off to my brother-and sister-in-laws for more Mother’s Day eating.  We got to spend some time with mother-in-law who I enjoy quite a bit and then my sister-in-law Sarah’s mother, Jill came by for tea with her husband and friend Pat in for a holiday from England.  We all ended up outside in the yard in the early spring sunshine around a big pot of tea while eating more cake!  Pat from England was a delight and a joy to see her with Jill.  They have been friends for fifty years, can you imagine?  They met living next door to each other in England on a little cul de sac and have remained friends all these years despite or maybe because of job changes, husband changes, raising kids, retiring and growing old.  They are both almost eighty now and still going strong.  It was so heartwarming and reassuring to see them together.  Reminded me of the importance of dear friends.  Home now and just came in from sitting outside in our new backyard, chatting with my guy and soon heading downstairs for a late and light dinner of toasted tomato sandwiches.  Life is indeed good.
